McMILLAN, Donald Angus, M.D.C.M.
May 11, 1925 to May 29, 2022

Dad died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 29, 2022, at the age of 97. Beloved husband of Christine (nee Zumstein) for nearly 70 years. Loving father and father-in-law of Bill (Judy), Doug (Katherine), Paula (Brian), Bob (Michael), Jim (Tammy), Gord (Sarah), David (Chris) and daughter-in-law Jane. Proud grandfather of Stuart (Ali), Claire (Stu), Paddy and Dougie (Tianna); Christie, Katie (Jeremy) and Scott (Kathleen); Megan, Stephanie (Eric) and Laura (Rob); Will, Andy, Cameron and Zoe; Matthew, Gus and Luke; Leah and Sarah. Great-grandfather of Alex, Robin, Oscar, Alice, Juliette and Josie. Predeceased by his parents, Dr. W.H. McMillan and Mary (nee Fraser) and his brothers Kenneth (1923) and William (2014). Dad was a proud, lifelong resident of Thorold, Ontario. After graduating from Thorold High School, he attended Queen’s University and graduated from the Queen’s Faculty of Medicine in 1949. Six of his children followed his lead and attended Queen’s with three becoming doctors, two of whom also graduated from Queen’s Medicine. After completing his internship, Dad joined his father’s medical practice in Thorold in 1950. In 1959, Dad and his father, together with Drs. Gordon Ralph, Don Myers and Eugene Caira, established the Thorold Medical Clinic and were joined in practice in later years by Drs. J.J. Fraser, Bill Blaikie, Peter Pringle and Tim Tatzel. Dad was a dedicated and caring physician and considered his patients as friends. His practice included many evening and weekend house calls, as well as daily visits to the local hospitals and nursing homes. Dad practised medicine in Thorold for 57 years, retiring in 2007 just after his 82nd birthday. While maintaining his busy medical practice, Dad was also heavily involved in local politics. Following in the footsteps of his father who had been mayor of Thorold before serving as a member of federal parliament from 1950-1965, Dad was elected first to the Public Utilities Commission, then served on Town Council under his good friend Mayor Cec Grose. Dad was elected mayor of Thorold in 1972 and served as both Mayor and Regional Councillor until his retirement from politics in 1985. One of his proudest achievements as Mayor was spearheading the drive to make Thorold a city, which occurred in 1975. Longtime residents of Thorold will also remember the Mayor’s Report, Dad’s weekly column in the Thorold News where he updated the community on local issues and kept political opponents on their toes. Like his father, Dad was also active in the local Liberal Party. In 2013, Dad was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal to recognize his many years of service to the community. Despite his busy professional career, Dad always made time for his family. While evenings were filled with office hours or council meetings, Dad was home for family dinner every night. Some of his happiest days were spent on the dock at the family cottage on Muldrew Lake in Gravenhurst, Ontario. In his retirement, he and Mom were able to spend entire summers there, surrounded by their children and grandchildren. Growing up, Dad treasured summers spent in Blenheim and Port Elgin Ontario with his many cousins, aunts and uncles. Dad lived his entire life in Thorold. He was born at home in his parents’ apartment on Front Street, above Robinson’s bookstore, and died at home in the house that his parents built in 1940. A special thank you to the many kind caregivers who helped make it possible for Mom and Dad to remain at home so Dad could live out his last years in the home that he loved. Dad was a lifelong member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Thorold, where he served as an Elder as well as Clerk of Session. While he would have wished to have a funeral service at St. Andrew’s, Dad felt that Covid posed too great a risk. For this reason, a funeral service will be held outdoors in the park beside the Thorold Seniors Centre, 8 Carleton Street South, on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 11am. There will be no formal visitation; however, Mom and family look forward to greeting friends and extended family following the service. For more information, please contact HAINE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 26 Ormond Street South, Thorold at 905-227-1732.  Cremation has taken place and Dad’s remains will be interred at Lakeview Cemetery with those of his parents and brothers in a private service.

WHITE, Eva (Szondi)
With devastating hearts, we sadly announce the very unexpected and sudden passing of Eva White on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at the age of 53. Beloved wife of Richard (Rick) and loving mother of Robert and Krisztina (Scott), Richie and Sarah (Ryan). Dear grandmother of Kaiden, Anikó, Peyton and Ronan. Sister of Mária (Wolfgang), Tibor and Sándor (Györgyi). Predeceased by her mother Mária and father Károly.
Our family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Syed Faraz Masood, the nurses and the staff at the emergency and intensive care units of the Greater Niagara General Hospital for all their efforts on May 14th, 2022.
The world has turned so dark with the loss of the light which lead our way. Eva was the glue that held our family together far and wide. Born in Romania, she moved to Canada from Hungary with her children, Robert and Krisztina in December, 2000. Here, she met the love of her life Rick with whom she spent 13 loving years. Eva was the life of every party. A real spark who lit up every room she walked into. Anyone who was fortunate enough to know her, knew what a fun, good spirited and caring person she was. Her laugh was contagious and her geniality made it easy for anyone to feel at home in her presence. Eva loved to host family and friends at her home. She was an avid cook and took great pleasure in feeding anyone and everyone who was in the mood for some cabbage rolls, chicken parmigiana, Hungarian gulyás or a nice prime rib. The menu from her kitchen was ever changing and always appetizing. She was a true master of her craft. She left countless individuals eagerly awaiting the next meal she was going to whip up and outshine the last savoury masterpiece she served.
Eva’s greatest joys in life came from spending time with her family. She loved being a homebody with Rick and spending time with their children, grandchildren and two boxer dogs, Ali and Lily. She welcomed all of her sister-in-laws and their families with wide open arms. She embraced her beautifully blended family and cherished the special relationships she was able to gain through her love with Rick.
Whenever possible, she took the long trip across the Atlantic to see her brothers, sister, nieces and nephews. No matter the distance between her and her siblings, their bond never broke. Throughout the years, she maintained a close relationship as if she lived right next door.
Eva worked as a personal support worker for Tammy Cargill however, she never felt like taking care of Tammy was her “job”. Tammy was not only her friend and confidant but the niece of her beloved husband, Rick. Eva was a natural born caregiver and she knew that if there was any way she could make life easier for Tammy and her husband Brad, she would do it. She enjoyed being a part of their family on a regular basis as if it were her very own. Eva overachieved in every aspect of her role and she will be an irreplaceable part in Tammy’s life, much like everyone else’s.
Death is a thief who stole our beloved Eva. It’s extremely difficult to describe someone so extraordinary and with so much life left behind. Eva’s undeniable strength and perseverance has taught all of us that we can and will survive. Her loss has left an immeasurable hole within our hearts. With time comes hope that one day we can form a new normal without her in our world. Our grief will be betrayed by the smile we put on our faces as we try to come to terms with this devastating loss. She will be achingly missed but her memory and love will forever be carried on. Heaven gained a new angel and she will never ever be forgotten.

FLEMING, Lenore Theresa (nee Condon)
It is with deep sorrow that I announce Lenore's passing on February 6th, 2022. Lenore will be tremendously missed by her sons Tim and Troy, son in law Chris and granddaughter Becki. Lenore leaves behind her brother Don Condon (Claudette), and her sisters Anne Hockey and Janice Kelly (Chuck). A much loved, Aunt and Great Aunt of many nieces and nephews, and an extended family that spans the province, the country and afar. She will be sorely missed. Born in St Catharines, Lenore became, at well over 40 years, one of the longest employees of the Regional Municipality of Niagara, retiring a few years ago to spend more time with her family. After a few years, her health began to fail. On Sunday, that battle was over. Cremation was her wish and that shall happen presently. No services will be held at this time as we await a future where all who can attend will be free and able to do so, sharing hugs and tears together and joyful memories. She would have wanted it that way. Donations only please, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the charity of your choice. The Woodstock General Hospital Critical Care Unit, for their tireless and compassionate support, mental health support groups, including CAMH Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, and The Canadian Association of Gastroenterology are great options for those who would like a recommendation for where to donate. To my wife of 59 years, I say, "Rest in peace, I will join you shortly". Jerry

DOMINIC, Jeremiah
We, the Dominic family are devastated to announce that a beautiful heart has stopped beating on December 6, 2021. Our charismatic and beautiful son and brother, Jeremiah Dominic, passed away from a fentanyl overdose. Although we cannot say that he died peacefully, we know that he is now at peace. Jeremiah had an addiction problem but we will never let him be defined by that. Addiction is a symptom of the person and doesn’t define the person. We want people to know the person, and that he loved his family, friends and his animals. He would do anything for anyone. He would always bring home a stray or wounded animal and nurse them back to health before releasing them back to nature. He loved nature and felt at peace when he was in the woods or near water. He loved to pull pranks. He had a brilliant and curious mind. You’d never have a conversation with him without walking away learning something about history, the planets/space, or numerous other topics. Before his addiction (and even as an addict), he was very entrepreneurial; even at the age of 14, he started his very own and successful lawn business and hired his dad to help cut lawns. He also learned at a young age that he could pay his sister to do his chores. He had a huge heart and always stood up for the underdog, (even if it got him into trouble). He graduated head of his class and pursued a career as a Child and Youth worker. He was pivotal in assisting young people onto a good path in life. He made a positive impact on the youth he helped with his seemingly endless positive traits. He had the potential to be anything from a captivating politician to a researcher that could solve the climate crisis. Outwardly it looked like he had it all. Intelligence, beautiful blue eyes, a big smile that would light up the room, and the ability to engage and forge a relationship with anyone. Inwardly Jeremiah was sensitive and had struggles that he hid well from his friends and family. We all loved Jeremiah with all of our hearts but we now know that it was not enough to shield him from the world. For anyone suffering addiction, please know that you are loved so much, that people care about you and there is help if you seek it. Please do not wait. It could make the difference of life or death. Most importantly for loved ones of addicts, always tell your loved ones how much you love them. We want people to know that Jeremiah was more than his addiction, he was a son, a brother, a brother-in-law, an uncle, a grandson, a nephew, a cousin, and a friend. Dear Jeremiah - you will always stay in our hearts and be loved and remembered every day. Our lives will never be the same. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his nephews charity, Bens army, retinoblastoma department of Sick Kids https://fundraise.sickkidsfoundation.com/bensarmy. Or to CASON, Community addiction services of Niagara in the hope that Jeremiah’s death is not in vain and that he could help one more person who is struggling with addiction, or to save the pain of one more family who is forever changed and broken hearted. Your loving family, father John, mother Debbie, Sister Katrina, brother-in-law Justin, nephews Ezzie and Ben, grandmother Jenny, aunt Pat, great cousin Jude, and countless other cousins and friends who love you unconditionally. A private funeral service and cremation to follow will be held at the HAINE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 26 Ormond Street South, Thorold. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

How? It is a question I ask myself often. How did you go from a sweet innocent baby boy over forty years ago to the person you were when you took your last breath being terrorized by pain? How? It is a question I ask myself often. How could I have taken away your pain? What could I have done differently so that you could still be here with me today? How? It is a question I have asked myself since your passing. How will I ever be able to tell you again that you are so loved and you had the most special gifts to offer this world. You have always been and will continue to be my greatest teacher. How? It is a question I have asked myself since your passing. How am I going to be able to support our parents who are suffering from the greatest tragedy any parent can experience? Parents that loved you more than you will ever know. How? It is a question I have asked myself since your passing. How will I ever be able to put an end to this horrible opioid crisis? How will I ever be able to make sure that no other families will have to live through this nightmare of their loved one becoming another statistic? How? It is a question I have asked myself since your passing. How will I make sure the world knows there was so much more to you than your addiction? You had the biggest heart of anyone I have ever known with the most curious and brilliant mind. You were a son, a brother, an uncle, a grandson, a cousin and a friend. How? Is a question I have asked myself since your passing. How will I go through life never having another hug with you or another one of our long chats? How am I going to go on without you? I will miss you big bro. - Your loving sister Katrina

For school, she went to Maplecrest, followed by Glen Merritt and then high school after that, before getting a job at Eaton’s, where she worked for 20 years. She had many friends, notably Sharon “Little Sharon” (nearly 70 years!) and Don. The first phase also included Ricci's and disco dancing, to campfires and fishing on the French River. Then she crossed the Mason Dixon line at Lorenzi's and started the second half, in old town Thorold, in the Chapel and Clairmont area where she fell in love with her old house as she decorated and refinished furniture, and again meeting many new lifelong friends, including Nancy and Mike, and Lois and Craig. Most of all, through and through, she was a loving Mom to Kyle and Joel. From runny noses and fevers, to cubs, scouts, chief scouts, Merrittville, baseball, basketball, schooling, apprenticeships, finally to proud Grandma to Abby and Grace, she was the best. She loved her boys, even Robbie too. The family extends a special thank you to the incredible Dr. Raymond Harb, who stood by Sharon’s side through it all. Also, a special thank you to everyone at St. Elizabeth (Dr. Manser, Nora, Judy, Darryl), Care Partners, and Bayshore. Your love and support to Sharon will never be forgotten. ADAMS, David Wilfred
1937 – 2021
It is with profound sadness that Dave’s family announces his peaceful passing on November 28, 2021 after many years with Alzheimer’s Disease; an illness that stole his mind but never broke his spirit. The love of Dave’s life, Roselyn (née Carson), to whom he was married for nearly 60 years, passed away in 2016. He leaves behind his children, Dave Adams, Jr. (Terry Parry), Laurie Britton (Don Jones), and Karen Adams, as well as grandchildren, Heather Netherway (John), Jacalyn Britton (Justin Reeves), Shawn Adams, and Christopher Koch (Michele). Dave’s great-grandchildren, Annie and John Netherway, Jr. and Grace Reeves, have few memories of the incredible love that Grampa bestowed upon them in his better years, but mention of their names always brought a smile to his face. Dave is also survived by his brothers, Bill Adams and Bob Gray (June) of Burk’s Falls, his sister-in-law Jackie Howard of Forest, VA, as well as many nieces and nephews. Dave loved life. He was a storyteller, joker, singer of little ditties, master of one-liners and he had a cliché response to most everything. He loved to laugh and could entertain for hours. Dave could fix or build most anything he set his mind to, and one of his proudest feats was the cottage he built on his family land in Burk’s Falls, Ontario. He cherished the time he was able to spend at the cottage and loved to see one and all enjoy the ATVs, fishing, drinking beer around the fire, or loving the spectacular view from the front porch – a legacy that will live on in his children. Dave worked at the Ontario Northland Railroad from 1953 to 1965, where he enjoyed his work as a Telegraph Operator. In 1965, Dave moved his family from Cochrane to St. Catharines, where he worked at Hayes Dana until his retirement in 1996. The family wishes to thank Linhaven Home for the Aged for their amazing care. A special thank you to Linda for the love and special care you provided. No question, Dave loved you as though you were one of his own. Cremation has taken place with private interment at Niagara Lakeshore Cemetery, Niagara-on-the-Lake. All who wish to pay their respects to Dave are invited to a Celebration of Life on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 3:00 at Grantham Lions Club at 732 Niagara Street, St. Catharines. For those who are unable to attend the service at 3:00, please feel free to stop in for a drink and a bite to eat between 4 and 8pm.  Proof of Vaccination and Government-Issued ID is required. Casual attire. We welcome you to share your memorable “Davisms” in the guest book. If desired, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of St. Catharines would be appreciated by the family. “We’ll see you in the funny papers.” Funeral arrangements entrusted to the HAINE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 26 Ormond Street South, Thorold.

DeROSE. Josephine E.
April 23, 1922- May 16, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Josephine DeRose in her 100th year. Josephine was born and raised in Thorold, the daughter of Salvatore (d 1983) and Angelina (d 1971) Cosentino, the devoted wife of the late Amedeo DeRose (d 1983), the sister of Evelyn Remigio (d 2014), Helen Pullen and of her adopted cousins Vivian LaVia ( d 2018), Vera Muelli, Leonard Walters (d 1995) Jimmy Walters (1985) and Peter Walters (d1983). Her parents and the eight children, all under the age of six, managed to live harmoniously in a three bedroom semi-detached home through the depression. Stories of that period are family lore. Josephine DeRose was also "Aunty Jo" to countless nephews and nieces in our very large extended family. There are too many to list here but we all grieve her loss. Josephine graduated from high school as WWII was winding down. A teacher shortage at the time necessitated the recruitment of high school graduates to teach elementary school. So, armed with her HS diploma and ministry of education summer school diploma she began 48 year teaching career in Merritton, and later in Crowland, Welland and Toronto. She earned a Masters degree and went on to teach summer school for Special Education teachers at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Education. Josephine traveled extensively through Europe, the Middle East and across North America. She fulfilled a lifelong dream to explore the ancient history of Palestine and Egypt. She rode a camel and a mule to archaeological sites. Suffice to say it wasn't exactly Indiana Jones but it enriched her perspective on life. She was an avid reader and a bridge master. But above all, she loved opera especially Verdi and Puccini and her eyes lit up when she listened to Pavarotti. The family wishes to extend their heart felt thanks to Jeannine, Josephine's caregiver of the last five years, as well as all the staff at Northland Pointe for their support. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life to honour Josephine will take place in the future when family and friends can travel and gather safely. Memorial donations may be made in Josephine's name to her favourite charities Save the Children and Rotary Club of Canada. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the HAINE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 26 Ormond Street South, Thorold.

Her accomplishments in her 35 years in education were extensive and widely respected; an exemplary and dedicated teacher, principal, Chair of the Ontario’s Principal’s Association, System Administrator at DSBN and instructor in the Faculty of Education at Brock University. She was particularly invested in encouraging and advocating for children of all abilities to reach their full potential. Marlene’s appreciation for fine wine, skiing, golf, tennis, good books, bridge and passion for travel was surpassed only by her love for spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren creating wonderful memories. Marlene’s core was one of kindness, love and acceptance; her spirituality allowed her to live with hope and graced those who knew her. Whatever Marlene undertook in life was approached with determination and positivity. Marlene will be remembered and cherished forever as a strong, thoughtful and generous woman who valued relationships deeply and helped those in need. The family extends heartfelt thanks to her doctors, nurses and many friends for all of their incredible support. her love lives on. Keep her in your heart and memories and share her love with those around you.

I'm Free
Don't grieve for me for now I'm free,
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call:
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way;
I found my place at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with remembered joys.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah yes, these things I too shall miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow:
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I savoured much;
Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch.
Perhaps my life seemed all too brief:
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me;
God wanted me now, He set me free.

BURTON, Dorothy A. (nee Nesbitt)
Dorothy Burton, age 73, peacefully passed away at home on Thursday January 28th, 2021, surrounded by her family. She was born March 28th, 1947 to parents Norman & Erma (Armstrong) Nesbitt (predeceased). Dorothy is survived by her beloved husband Donald Burton, her two beautiful daughters Tammy (John) TenBroeck-McLachlan and Shelley TenBroeck, and wonderful grandchildren Parker and Kyleigh TenBroeck. She will be forever cherished by her niece Karen Ward, nephew Steven Ward and son-in-law John McLachlan. Dorothy is also survived by her sister Joan (Charlie) Stewart and family, along with many other family and friends whom she loved and touched deeply. Dorothy had a career as a hair stylist and worked at Videls Hair Salon while raising a young family and continuing her education. In 1977 she became a Registered Nurse. She was passionate about nursing and had a fulfilling career at the Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital. She was devoted and kind-hearted to the health care needs of her patients. Amongst her many talents Dorothy loved working in her gardens and took great pleasure nurturing her flowers, the birds, and especially Monarch butterflies. Springtime was her favourite season to watch the birth of fresh blooms and the delightful new beginnings. She loved cats, the horses and whinnying of new foals, little frogs and their bizarre sounds pulse in a kind of crepuscular symphony and collecting caterpillars. Dorothy was also quite the visionary with a creative imagination. Her works of art included many sewing, knitting, crocheting, and cooking projects made with love. She spent hours crafting and cooking with her grandchildren in hopes of passing along treasured moments and skills. Dorothy was vibrant and lived life to the fullest with friends and family. Letter to Our Nanna
Our Nanna had a gift for making everyone who walked into her house feel at home.
Whether she'd known you your whole life or just met you five minutes ago, she treated everyone the same - with love, kindness and generosity.
Stepping into our Nanna's house always meant three things: That you would enjoy a delicious meal, you'd be treated to a story about "the good ol' days", and you'd leave at least 25 cents richer. Our Nanna always kept a jar of coins in her cupboard and each time we'd leave, she'd reach into her jar and give us a few coins As kids, this was something we always looked forward to.
As we (her grandchildren) got older, Nanna's generosity continued with her great-grandchildren. On our final visit with Nanna a few days before she passed, despite her pain and weakened condition, she insisted we get her wallet so she could give her great-granddaughters twenty dollars each. Her giving spirit was unwavering and she never stopped thinking of others.
Our Nanna was an incredible cook and her culinary skill was something she was very proud of. Nothing lit up her face more than when you complimented her cooking. So many of our best memories are tied to our Nanna’s cooking - the way she’d always make us the perfect poached eggs for breakfast, the crispiest fried potatoes and the best meatballs and tomato sauce. Sitting around our Nanna’s kitchen table, with her food on the table and family all around is an experience that will never be the same without her.
Our Nanna came to Canada, a foreign country she’d never seen before, when she was a young woman. She didn’t know the language and she’d never met my Nonno in person (they’d only corresponded through letters), but she soon married him and started a family. It’s difficult to think of the struggles our Nanna may have gone through - the loneliness of being separated from her family, the longing for her home country, and the discrimination she would have faced as an Italian immigrant. It’s hard to imagine the sacrifices she made to start a new life in Canada, but she (and my Nonno) are the reason we are all here today, in this beautiful country.
Our Nanna’s life was a life truly lived - all 90 years of it. It wasn’t all easy - I know there are parts of her life she never wanted to share with us because the memories were too difficult, but there were also so many beautiful moments too. Our Nanna helped raise seven grandchildren. Our Nanna lived to see and enjoy the company of eight great-grandchildren. Even as her memory failed her, she did her best to remember everyone’s names and nothing made her happier than sitting outside watching her great-grandchildren play in the yard.
We are all going to miss our Nanna so much. We’re going to miss her on our birthdays because she’d never forget to call us. We’re going to miss her at Christmas because she always baked the most special Christmas cookies. We’re going to miss her in the summer, sitting out on her porch, waiting for us to arrive for a visit. We’re going to miss the way she would cut us up fresh apples after dinner, always peeled. We’re going to miss her voice and her hugs and her hands - the hands that cooked thousands of meals and held grandbabies and great-grandbabies and worked so hard to make us all feel so loved.
Written by Jenna Pettinato-Mizera on behalf of Norina's grandchildren.

HIND, Robert George

Robert was born in Chatham, ON, but destiny would call him to St. Catharines where he married his sweetheart Jean (Jesik). Dad’s independent nature and ability to fix anything that needed repair led him to start his own business - Robert Hind Appliance Repair & Installation, as well as a contractor with Sears for many years. Even after retirement, Dad could not sit still, a passion for model railroading kept him quite busy and every year he looked forward to his part time job with Presto Heaters at Costco. He loved to get out and talk with people. Always one to share a laugh, a little drink and a whole lot of Johnny Cash. Dad's easy-going demeanor always made for a good time. Dear husband, dad and poppy, to say you’ll be missed is an understatement, our memories are fond and always close to our hearts, and it is those memories that will carry us through the days ahead. Always loved and never forgotten, until we meet again. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life is planned for this coming summer. MARTIN, Caroline Marie 'Carol'

After a brief illness, Caroline Marie Martin (nee Bouvier) passed away in her 73rd year at Millennium Trail Manor, Niagara Falls. Beloved mother of Raymond (Cathy) and cherished “Mamoo” of Jarrett. Pre-deceased by her parents, Rene & Florence, her husband Ray, brothers Romeo, Maurice, Richard, Conrad, Ronald and sister, Claira. Survived by brothers Jerry (Chrissy) and Yvon; sisters Claudette, Marlene and Suzanne (Paul). Carol will be remembered with love by her many nieces and nephews. Carol enjoyed entertaining - anytime was a good time for a party. Cooking for her many friends and family was her passion. She was generous to a fault, made friends easily and loved so deeply. Carol had been in poor health for many years, but despite all she had to endure, she tried her best to maintain her wonderful sense of humour. In her younger years, she worked very hard to educate herself and develop a career to support her family. She was very proud of becoming a Credit Manager and successfully managing a team. Although she didn’t always live near her siblings, they were always on her mind. The times they got together were filled with laughter, love and plenty of silliness. When Carol became a grandmother to her grandson, Jarrett, she was over the moon. She made sure she was with him as much as she could be and made him the centre of her world. Having Jarrett helped restore the love she lost when her beloved husband Ray died. Carol was very proud of her only son Raymond and the man that he has become. She will be sorely missed by her daughter-in-law Cathy, to whom she was a second mom. The family wishes to thank the staff at Millennium Trail Manor who went above and beyond during the last days of Carol’s life in a challenging situation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial will be planned for 2021. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the HAINE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 26 Ormond Street South, Thorold.

We have lost a wonderful father and grandfather. Gene passed away on October 2, 2020 at the United Mennonite Home (UMH) in Vineland, Ontario. He passed away just a few days short of his 90th birthday. He was also a wonderful husband to his late wife Marilyn who sadly left us in May of this year. Gene and Marilyn were married for 65 years and Gene missed Marilyn terribly in his final months. Gene was a career high school teacher and met Marilyn while attending teachers college. It was truly love at first sight and they never looked back. They had three children, Jim, David and Judy while living in their first home on Thompson Avenue in Thorold. Gene taught at the Thorold High School at the time and when he changed to the St. Catharines Collegiate in 1968, the family moved to Woodside Drive in St. Catharines. Both Gene and Marilyn were members of the First Baptist Church in Thorold for many years and had many life long friends through the church. Gene taught mathematics, physical education and was as well a guidance counsellor at the Collegiate. He was the coach of the track team and cross country team during his years at the Collegiate and will be remembered by many former students and teaching colleagues. Gene retired from teaching at an early age and he and Marilyn enjoyed many fine years of retirement before moving on from condo life to a retirement home in 2014. Gene is predeceased by his parents Dana and Marjorie Wilson of Delhi, by his sister Marion Hossack of Ancaster and by his son David who passed away in the Fall of 2016. He is survived by his twin sister Joan Starling of Elmira, Ontario and had  looked forward to their 90th birthday celebration at the end of October. He is also survived by his son Jim (Janet) of Ottawa, Judy (Paul) of St. Catharines and by three loving grandsons Mitch, Richard (Amy) and Matthew. A special thought for daughter Judy and her partner Paul who saw Gene regularly at UMH and were with Gene continually during his final days. The family also wishes to thank the dedicated staff at UMH and Dr. James Woodland for the loving and compassionate care provided to both Gene and Marilyn over the years and their tireless attention to Gene in his final days. A socially distanced service with a masking requirement will be held in the Chapel at the HAINE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 26 Ormond St. S, Thorold, Ontario on Thursday, October 8 at 11:00 AM, Interment at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens to follow the service.
