SHARA, Pamela (nee Davidson)
It is with profound sadness that the family of Pamela Shara (Davidson) announce her passing in the early hours of March 3rd, 2025.
Born in Port Arthur, On, her family moved to St.Catharines as her father pursued his career with the T. Eaton Co. A graduate of Denis Morris and Sir Winston Churchill high schools and the St.Catharines Teachers College she embarked on her career as an educator in 1968, first working at Holy Name Elementary School in Toronto.
In 1969 she enrolled as a full time student at the University of Windsor, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1971. It was during this period that she met her future husband, Michael Shara and they married in Dec. 1970. The next number of years they started a family and had 3 sons, Michael, Jeffrey and Mathew. This was a busy time of her life as she juggled raising her very active sons and working part time as a supply teacher. In 1987 she returned to full teaching duties with the then Lincoln County Roman Catholic School Board working at P.K.Kerwin Elementary School. In 1985 the school was re-named Holy Cross Secondary School and in 1993 relocated to the former Grantham High School. It was at this time that Pam accepted the role of a Special Needs Teacher, which she held until her retirement in 2003. Her dedication to these students was unparalleled and exemplified her caring personality.
Pam was a special person to all that knew her, avoiding the limelight, but always ready to make a sly comment or give a look that needed no words. She never considered herself an athlete but participated in numerous sporting activities both in school and as an adult. She played many years of softball with Cat's Caboose and developed friendships that exist to this day. Pam also curled out of the Golf Club and was an "avid" golfer, as long as it included lunch. She was a very social person and thoroughly enjoyed playing cards or mah-jong with her special group of friends, as the laughter never ended.
The thing that Pam was most proud of was her family. She was there every step of the way helping and guiding them through their years from being boys into men. It was never easy being the only female in the house but she was the boss and everyone knew it. Strict when it was necessary and understanding the rest of the time, she stood by and watched them grow into their own personalities. Many great memories were created at the Cayuga Ave. house, especially when the pool was installed.
Pam became the "neighbourhood " lifeguard as she spent countless hours supervising the endless games of pool tag that the local kids enjoyed with our boys.
In 2006 our first granddaughter Molly arrived and Pam was delighted to have a girl to "spoil ". She was so thrilled to see Molly transform from a newborn to a young girl and now into a young lady. Unexpectedly, Amelia arrived in 2023 and became the centre of attention in Pam's life. This was indeed a blessing and she cherished every minute that she was able to spend with Amelia.
This was also the year that Pam was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. Unfortunately the treatments were not effective. Pam was indeed an inspiration to all that knew her. She accepted her fate and lived each day with optimism, never once giving in until she could fight no more.
Pam was predeceased by her father Harvey (2003) and is survived by her mother Barbara, brothers Paul and Alec (Angie),her husband Mike, sons Michael (Carla), Jeffrey (Catharine) and Mathew, grandchildren Molly, Amelia, Ethan, Robbie and Madison.
As per Pam's wishes, cremation has taken place through HAINE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 26 Ormond Street South, Thorold. In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation be made to Westview Centre 4 Women or the Rankin Cancer Run.

GAZZOLA, Lillian Ann (nee Cecchini)
Born Sept. 25, 1927. Peacefully on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at the Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital in her 98th year. Mom was born a beautiful red headed baby… “Lillian” to Palma & Roger (Big Red) Cecchini… on Townline Rd. …”from the other side of the tracks”… in the hard working towns of Merritton & Thorold… This is where her wonderful life started and 97 years later she was still in the same locale. Her father - Big Red ran a family business - Firewood & Moonshine delivery was how the story went! Lillian loved Thorold, the community and all her family.
She was a Sister… A tough childhood, Lillian endured the depression days with her siblings Mary, Eddy, and Cathy (Tootsie). “We had it ok... Always had good food, clean house”… she would say. “Tough times - everybody chipped in… whether it was egg collecting or plucking the Sunday chicken. Rode my bike, making grocery delivers, for Uncle Ginos’ – Red & White grocery store. Or hand washing the family’s laundry.”
She was a Wife… Johnny and Lil were married in1953. “Your father chased me all over town ... When I seen him, I would go to the other side of the road, or move to a different aisle at stores…I did not like him at the time - hehe!… But he won me over in his own special way.“ “We had a one night honeymoon at the fancy Royal Connaught Hotel in downtown Hamilton”… and then both back to work next day!
She was a Mother… Who provided a beautiful home raising 3 active boys with a hard working husband who regularly worked 6 days a week… 5 for work, Sat “side” jobs… and Sunday was church, the home, the garden and then maybe a few Red Cap beers at the Belvedere Club. Sunday dinners were a special family time – Mom was a great cook from everything from pasta to chicken! And desserts!
She was a Widow… Asked again in life to endure tough times… on her own at 47 after the tragic accidental death of her beloved Johnny at The St Lawrence Seaway in 1975. Raising 3 boys Denis (Skeeter) 18, Rick (Gus) 14, Lou 11. She raised us by herself – tough task but somehow turned us into men. She pushed us in sports and kept us off the streets. We had the greatest mom ever! She was also a Grandmother, a Great Grandmother, a Godmother, and an Aunt to many. She was a Mother-in-law and a Sister-in-law too!... But MOST of all, Lillian was a friend… Affectionately known as Nona or Nonnee by all. Generous with her TIME for all. Whether it was a family in need, volunteer feeding of disabled kids or church assistance, Lillian was always there. We celebrate Lillian and her wonderful “FULL” life that has touched so many, so positively… Good bye Mom… Wish we could hear you say once again, your ever calming line. “Like I said, it is what it is.” Be well in heaven Mom - with Dad. Your time upon this earth provided us with the lessons for us all - to join you one day again. Special thanks to caregivers Daisy, Cathy, and Cindy, for all their loving care provided these past few years… she LOVED her daily car drives. As well, a special thank you to daughter-in-law’s Sue, Lesley, and Catherine, for all your time and love, organizing and keeping Mom as comfortable as possible these past few years. The daughters she never had but she dearly loved. Thank you to Aspira, and to the Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital for your caregiving.
The family will receive friends at the HAINE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 26 Ormond Street South, Thorold on Wednesday, February 26 from 2-4 & 7-9pm. As a beloved school principal, he was a pillar of wisdom and compassion in the community. His commitment to education inspired countless students and teachers, and his leadership left an indelible mark on the schools he served. Outside of his career, Mario found immense joy in gardening. His green thumb transformed his yard and home into a vibrant sanctuary, where he spent countless hours cultivating beauty and tranquility. He often shared the fruits of his labor—both literal and metaphorical—with neighbours, friends, and family, reminding everyone of the beauty that comes from patience and care. Mario’s green thumb was exemplified by his prize-winning roses, an abundant vegetable and flower garden, chickens, pheasants, geese and Muscovy ducks. More than anything, Mario adored his family. DELISLE, Robert Thomas
YOUNG, William Clive
HOLDSWORTH, Judith
GRATTO, Jason Edward
God saw the road was getting rough,
The hill was hard to climb;
He gently closed those loving eyes
And whispered “Peace Be Thine.”
The weary hours, the days of pain,
The sleepless nights have passed;
The ever patient worn-out frame
Has found sweet rest at last.
God Saw that you were weary
So He did what He knows best.
He came and stood beside you,
And whispered, “Come and rest.”
You bid no one a last farewell,
Not even a goodbye.
You were gone before we knew it,
And only God knows why.
